You can pay your regulated electricity or natural gas bill through your Online Account, pre-authorized debit, credit card and other quick-pay options or available banking options. Payment methods are listed on your bill.
If your regulated energy bill is higher than expected, it may be due to one or more of the following:
Distribution and transmission charges are approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and billed by Direct Energy Regulated Services on behalf of your distributor. Refer to the “Current distributor and government charges” section of your bill for details or online for details.
The Rate of Last Resort is the regulated electricity rate approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).

Your local distributor also provides the meter readings and usage information used to generate your bill.
You may enroll in pre-authorized debit, make one-time online payments or use banking options listed on your bill. Financial assistance programs may be available depending on eligibility.
If you are having difficulty paying, financial assistance plans may be available to help spread your balance across future bills. Once an arrangement is set up or payment is made, your account status is updated accordingly. You may also explore provincial or community support programs.
You can start, cancel or transfer your Direct Energy Regulated Services service online or through our Customer Care team.
Start service | Sign up for a new electricity or natural gas account online or contact Customer Care to set up service.
Cancel service | Contact Customer Care and provide your requested stop date and a forwarding mailing address so we can send your final bill.
Transfer service | You can transfer Direct Energy Regulated Services service online through your Online Account. Once logged in, select “Transfer service” and provide:
