You can pay your regulated electricity or natural gas bill through your Online Account, pre-authorized debit, credit card and other quick-pay options or available banking options. Payment methods are listed on your bill.

If your regulated energy bill is higher than expected, it may be due to one or more of the following:

  • Higher electricity or natural gas usage
  • Seasonal weather changes that increase heating or cooling needs
  • A longer billing period than usual
  • Higher distribution or transmission charges tied to increased usage

Distribution and transmission charges are approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and billed by Direct Energy Regulated Services on behalf of your distributor. Refer to the “Current distributor and government charges” section of your bill for details or online for details.

The Rate of Last Resort is the regulated electricity rate approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).

Your bill may include:

  • Energy charge (Rate of Last Resort electricity rate)
  • Distribution charges
  • Transmission charges
  • Local access fees
  • Administration fee

Distribution and transmission charges are approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and billed by Direct Energy Regulated Services on behalf of your distributor.

Your local distributor also provides the meter readings and usage information used to generate your bill.

If you are having difficulty paying, financial assistance plans may be available to help spread your balance across future bills. Once an arrangement is set up or payment is made, your account status is updated accordingly. You may also explore provincial or community support programs.
