Giving Back, the direct way

Community is built by action. From rolling up our sleeves at local events to supporting programs that make everyday life brighter, we’re proud to do our part for Albertans.

Take a look at some of our recent community initiatives.

Earth Month River Pathway Cleanup – Valley Ridge, Calgary

As part of our Earth Month initiatives, over 20 Direct Energy team members joined the City of Calgary’s annual cleanup, helping clear litter along Valley Ridge’s river pathways. Covering nearly 300 km citywide, this effort brings thousands of volunteers together to protect and preserve our natural spaces. One small action for a cleaner, greener community.

Go Baby Go 2025

For the third year in a row, Direct Energy proudly supported Variety – the Children’s Charity of Alberta, through its Go Baby Go program in Calgary. Go Baby Go brings together volunteers and community partners to adapt ride-on remote cars for children with limited mobility—helping them experience greater independence and inclusion in everyday life. This year, Direct Energy contributed $15,000 to fund five adaptive cars, which more than 20 employee volunteers helped build. Together, we’re helping kids in Alberta discover the joy and freedom of movement.

Season of Giving 2024

For the second consecutive year, our employee-led group, RISE, partnered with employees and our Community Giving team to host a winter donation drive for local Indigenous communities. This year’s effort expanded to include more essential items, bringing warmth, joy, and practical support to families during the cold winter months. Our dedicated volunteers shopped for and donated winter clothing, toys, and school supplies for the SiksikaTsuut’ina, Alexander, Fort McMurray, and Maskwacis First Nations. Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids 2024

Our team was proud to spend the day volunteering with Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK) preparing 1,000 meals in just 2.5 hours! With 21% of Calgarians struggling to afford groceries and food prices on the rise, we’re inspired by the BB4CK community’s commitment to food security. They ensure that kids have access to the food they need, providing thousands of school lunches every day. We’re honoured to support this cause and help make a difference for Calgary’s future.

Go Baby Go 2024

Variety Alberta's Go Baby Go program supports children living with limited mobility by customizing ride-on adaptive toy cars which allows them to move independently in ways that they otherwise would not be able to do on their own. Our Direct Energy team members have volunteered with Go Baby Go for two years in a row now to sponsor and build power vehicles for these families. It was truly a rewarding experience to bring joy to these kids and see their faces light up as they zoomed around in their new rides.

City of Calgary Pathway and River Cleanup 2024

As part of the City of Calgary’s annual Pathway and River Cleanup event in May 2024, 23 of our team members volunteered to help collect and properly dispose of garbage found in Valley Ridge & Bowness Park. With the help of 2,000 volunteers, thousands of kilograms of garbage were removed from Calgary’s parks, greenspaces, and nearly 300 kilometres of pathways and river banks.

2024 Corus Radiothon

Over the last 8 years, we have been a proud sponsor of the annual Corus Radiothon in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. This year, we donated $15,000 which will help fund the best people, programs, research and much-needed specialized equipment at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Savouring the final moments of summer!

Despite the changing weather, we managed to squeeze every last moment of summer fun by visiting seven more towns and cities throughout Alberta in September! Whether we were enjoying a day at the pier with families at Sylvan Lake, running in the Dinosaur Half Marathon in Drumheller, or handing out post-run treats at the Terry Fox Run in Grande Prairie, there were so many fantastic moments spent with families across Alberta. Thank you to everyone who we met along the way for their endless energy and enthusiasm!
