Signing up with Direct Energy

If you’re thinking about switching energy providers, we recommend contacting your current provider to confirm your contract end date and ask about any cancellation or early exit fees that may apply.

In Alberta, you have the Freedom to Choose your natural gas or electricity services from a list of retailers; visit ucahelps.alberta.ca. This means you can explore different rate options, contract terms, and service features to find what works best for your needs and budget.

When you switch to a new energy provider, your local distribution company remains the same.

By law, the local distribution company can't provide different care levels to customers who have chosen another energy provider. You'll continue to receive the same quality of delivery, emergency response and meter reading from your current distribution company.

Direct Energy is a competitive retail provider of electricity and natural gas, offering a range of plans (such as fixed or variable rates), contract terms (like 2-year options), and incentives for customers who enroll.

Your local distributor is assigned based on your location and is responsible for delivering energy to your home. This includes maintaining the infrastructure—such as wires, pipes, and equipment—needed to safely provide electricity or natural gas service.

Future savings depend on fluctuating commodity prices; however, you are not guaranteed savings. Our fixed-rate products offer stability and protection from fluctuating energy costs.

You receive highly competitive pricing. The fixed-rate stability allows you to budget your energy costs because your rate will not change for your contract term. That means that even when the market rises and falls, your fixed rate will be secure for your contract term.
