Direct Energy LP is one of the largest retail providers of electricity, natural gas, and renewable energy solutions across North America to residential and commercial customers.
Founded in Toronto, Canada, in 1986 as a competitive energy retailer, Direct Energy proudly serves residential and business customers in Alberta.
After the deregulation of Alberta's gas and electricity market in 2004, Direct Energy purchased the retail divisions of ACTO Gas and ATCO Electric and continues to offer those services through our regulated company, Direct Energy Regulated Services (DERS), a subsidiary of Direct Energy Marketing Ltd.
In January 2021, Direct Energy became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NRG Energy. NRG's expanded portfolio provides additional opportunities to serve customers with valuable products and services. Direct Energy operates in 50 US states, the District of Columbia, and eight Canadian provinces. We provide best-in-class service capabilities and technologies for a wide range of customers.
