To help with rising electricity costs, the Government of Alberta has extended the monthly electricity rebate until April 2023, providing a total of $500 in electricity rebates to each household, farm or small business. As a reminder, these rebates started in July 2022 and were applied as a $50 credit each month until December 2022.
In January and February 2023, a credit of $75 will be applied to your bill, followed by a credit of $25 in March and April 2023. These rebates are here to help you manage your electricity costs through the coldest months of the year when usage is highest and taper off in the spring.
Eligible consumers include all residential, farm, and small business customers who consume less than 250,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, whose current residence is connected to the system, and have consumed electricity within the past calendar year.
If you qualify, you don't have to do anything to activate this rebate; it will be applied automatically. Look for a credit ($75 or $25) in the Distributor Charges section titled "GOA Utility Commodity Rebate" on your bill starting with your July bill.

To help Albertans manage higher winter heating costs due to volatile natural gas prices, the Government of Alberta will provide natural gas rebates from October 2022 through March 2023.
The rebates will be applied directly to all eligible consumers' utility bills if the monthly default natural gas rate from one of Alberta's two regulated utility providers (Direct Energy Regulated Services or APEX Utilities) is above $6.50 per gigajoule (GJ). The government will provide rebates covering the difference on what's been consumed.
For example, if the regulated rate is $7.50 for the month of November, eligible consumers would get a rebate on their bill covering $1 for every gigajoule used during that month.
You'll automatically receive the rebate on your utility bill if you're a natural gas consumer who:
However, a small number of people not connected to the natural gas system or using other heating fuels will need to apply. Non-connected consumers and those using petroleum-based heating fuels can get more information on the rebate application process at www.alberta.ca/enabling-energy-rebates.aspx

Only eligible consumers (those who are connected and consumed less than 2,500 gigajoules of gas over the last twelve months) are entitled to this rebate. If you meet eligibility requirements, you will start receiving rebates, if triggered, on your bill for October consumption.
If the natural gas rebate has been triggered during the rebate period and you don't see the rebate on your bill, check your billing period. For example, a bill received in October may only have consumption up until September, which lies outside of the rebate period.
