To help with rising electricity costs, the Government of Alberta provided a monthly electricity rebate until April 2023, with a total of $500 in electricity rebates to each household, farm or small business. These rebates started in July 2022 and were applied as a $50 credit each month until December 2022.
In January and February 2023, a credit of $75 was applied to your bill, followed by a credit of $25 in March and April 2023. These rebates helped Albertans manage electricity costs through the coldest months of the year when usage is highest and taper off in the spring.
Eligible consumers included all residential, farm, and small business customers who consume less than 250,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, whose current residence is connected to the system and have consumed electricity within the past calendar year.
If you qualified for this rebate, you don't have to do anything to activate this rebate; it would've been applied automatically. Look for a credit of $75, $50 or $25 in the Distributor Charges section titled "GOA Utility Commodity Rebate" on your bill, starting with your July bill.

To help Albertans manage higher winter heating costs due to volatile natural gas prices, the Government of Alberta offered a natural gas rebate program from October 2022 through March 2023.
The rebates would have been applied directly to all eligible consumers' utility bills if the monthly default natural gas rate from one of Alberta's two regulated utility providers (Direct Energy Regulated Services or APEX Utilities) was above $6.50 per gigajoule (GJ) between October 2022 and March 2023. However, the natural gas rebate was not issued throughout the program as the monthly default natural gas rate remained below $6.50 per GJ during that period.
